We have made a start on the silk
scarves which will be raffled at our Exhibition. The white silk roving has
been dyed in several vibrant colours using acid dyes.
This has now been distributed to the Guild members for spinning.
Silk Roving
Dyed Silk
A wonderful array of hanks and balls of spun silks have been collected up
together and divided into “scarf sets” each approximately 120 grammes. These have been given to
weavers in the Guild to use for the warp. Fine commercial silk of an appropriate colour will be
used for the weft in the weave.
Hanks and balls of hand-spun silk
Weaving is under way and the first few
scarves are finished. The transformation of each pack of yarns
into a unique and beautiful scarf is quite unpredictable and a
lovely surprise.
To date seven scarves are finished and are ready to be raffled
at our Exhibition, and there are a few more to come. Make a note of
30th and 31st October and try your luck at winning a beautiful and unique
silk scarf for only £1.
A new feature at our 2009 exhibition will be
a notice board on which we invite tutors to display brochures of their courses or tuition
for 2010, free of charge. Please send a few brochures by mid October for display to:-
